Tokaj Nobilis Winery

Wife and husband team Sarolta Bárdos and dr. Péter Molnár founded Tokaj Nobilis Family Estate in 2000 in Bodrogkeresztúr. They are 3rd generation viticulturists and some of the land they cultivate today is the same that was howed by their grandfathers.

They own 7 hectares in two vineyards: Barakonyi and Csirke-mál. These vineyards have been active and producing outstanding wines for hundreds of years. The first mention of these crus goes back to the 1600s. They grow four different grape varieties: Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárgamuskotály and Kövérszőlő.

Their winery is located in an old, traditionally built farmer’s house. The wines are barrel- and bottle-aged in a traditonal cellar next to the main building.

For them winemaking begins in the vineyard. The quality of the wine is predestined by the quality of the grape, therefore they use severe pruning, shoot and cluster selection. With low yields they can harvest concentrated, fully-ripe fruit. Vinification is extremely gentle in order to transfer all the virtues of the grapes into wine. The technology is fully natural with minimal intervention.

Depending on the vintage they make an estate wine that blends the fruit of their two vineyards, also a single-vineyard Furmint and Hárslevelű from Barakonyi, a traditonal method sparkling wine, a late harvest, and 5 or 6 puttonyos aszú.

Their solid, mineral wines require longer aging, they open slowly, so aeration by decanting is recommended before consumption. In good vintages their annual production is 20,000 bottles.
